GROWING IDEAS FOR AGRICULTURE


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Tuesday, March 1, 2005

The 67th Annual Western Fair Farm Show, located on the Western Fairgrounds runs – Wednesday, March 9, 2005 and Thursday, March 10, 2005 – 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday, March 11, 2005 – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $9.00 and children 12 and under are FREE when accompanied by an adult.

The FARM SHOW boasts an average of 20,000 visitors over its three days, and has over 270 exhibitors. The latest information, products and services specific to farming can all be seen under one roof.

2005 FARM SHOW Highlights

Middlesex Agriculture Hall of Fame 2005
The Western Fair Association, in conjunction with several agriculture members, instituted the Middlesex Agriculture Hall of Fame. This distinction recognizes the history and tradition of agriculture in Middlesex County. Previous inductees include: Fred A. Lewis, George White and Sir Charles Edward Saunders. This year’s inductees are:

David McDonald
The Late Emily Guest (d. 1936)
The Late Clarence Hardy (d. 1995)

Inductees will be honoured at the Hall of Fame Luncheon on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Carousel Room. Tickets are $18.00 (taxes included), and can be purchased by contacting Hugh Fletcher at (519) 666-1572.

The Good Old-Fashioned Horse Pull
Back by popular demand, the Old-Fashioned Horse Pull takes place on Friday, March 11, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the new Agriplex. Come and see these equine athlete’s awesome display of grace and strength. This event is FREE with your admission to the FARM SHOW, or tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00. Children under 12 are FREE when accompanied by an adult.

Win one of two $1,000 Shopping Sprees from TSC Stores
With each paid admission you will receive a ballot for your chance to win one of the two $1,000 shopping sprees at TSC Stores. To be eligible to win, the ballot must be completed, stamped at all designated locations and dropped in the ballot boxes throughout the show. The draw will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2005. Winners will be contacted by phone.

It’s All “Child’s Play”
Come to the Progress Building and experience one of the newest additions to the Farm Show – “Child’s Play”. This is a hands-on activity centre for children of all ages. Sponsored by the Ontario Farm Animal Council, this is a great resource for parents or teachers, offering activities such as:

· Dig for a pig and win a prize
· Dress up as your favourite farmer for a day (a great photo opportunity)
· Farm trivia contest
· Colouring

Middlesex Soil & Crop Improvement Association
Be sure to visit the Middlesex Soil & Crop Improvement Association’s booth in the Confederation Building, and check out the latest in exciting agricultural innovations. This year’s theme is “Rust Never Stops”.
