The main walls of the old agricultural barn on the Western
Fairgrounds will start to be demolished tomorrow, Friday,
January 27, 2007 around 10:00 am (weather permitting). Media/Photographers
interested in capturing the fall of the old building and the
new Western Fair vista this demolition will introduce, are
invited to attend the demolition first thing or through-out
the day.
Western Fair’s old agricultural barn, rarely used due
to the construction of the new Agriplex, is scheduled to for
demolition beginning tomorrow, Friday, January 27, 2006.
A ‘new view’ will open up the fairgrounds with
this large facility removed from the Western Fair landscape.
A clean, impressive facade will now meet our guests entering
through the main gates at Rectory Street. If your eye travels
from the old IMAX theatre, along the Canada and Progress Buildings,
past the fibre-optic signage decorating the main entrance
to the Raceway, Grandstand, Slot Lounge and Carousel Room
and then follows the pedestrian bridge spanning Florence Street
to our world class Sports Centre and Agriplex Pavilion you
finish your panoramic view at the new Western Fair Head Offices
in the old McCormack's/Clubhouse facility.
If you were to trace a line along the route just mentioned
you would have created a perfect horseshoe. Western Fair feels
‘lucky’ about the possibilities this ‘new
shape’ and ‘new view’ will provide the fairgrounds
The new view falls hand-in-hand with Western Fair’s
latest innovative operational business strategies. With numerous
facility upgrades over the last few years and now a new vista
presented to all those arriving at the grounds, the Association
is primed to bring new life to it’s signature events,
new vision to it’s business practices and new energies
to it’s work force to elevate and maintain the Association’s
relevance in the event and entertainment industry. These efforts
will bring new audiences to the grounds and with the symbolic
shape the fairgrounds will form, with the barn demolition,
the Association hopes that a little good fortune and luck
will rub off, as it works towards maintaining a competitive
edge.
