In a city where families have just finished fighting back-to-school
crowds for last minute deals and schedules will revolve around
work, school, sports, music, dance and homework, an event
that boasts Human Cannonballs, 500 lb Alligators, aerial acrobatics,
racing pigs, Wheels of Death, longhorn cattle, Texas Trick-riders,
walking robots, deep fried cheese, international entertainment
and cuisine, one-man bands, quilts, canned goods, cakes and
crafts, is something you might want to squeeze into your schedule…right?
On Friday, September 8, the Western Fair will open its gates
in London, Ontario, marking the end of summer, the start of
another school year, 110 days till Christmas and the beginning
of new adventures for the whole crew at the 131st annual Western
Fair. Our opening weekend is jam-packed with great things
to do, but if we had to pick our TOP 5 things to see and do
on opening weekend….we couldn’t! OK we’ll
try.
There are so many FREE things to do on the Fair’s opening
weekend…here are just a few. Dodge Rodeo, Human Cannonball,
Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo, Winn’s Aerial Circus,
The Wheel of Death, Birds of Prey, Funky Farmworks, Canadian
Armed Forces Display, Racing Pigs and Ducks, Rock-It-Robot,
Youth Talent Search, Hot Tub Hippies, Shelly Rastin Band,
K-Hill Country Corral Shows, Parade of Horses and the Black
Rock Blues Band.
Layouts, exhibitors and showcases. Take in the new International
Food and Travel Building, the Canada Building - now the home
of all fall fair home arts competitions chuck full of crafts,
art, photo and flowers. Stroll through the Progress Building
-150+ exhibitors and the Canadian Government display. The
Confederation Building is transformed into the Coca-Cola Kidszone,
and the ever-popular Birds of Prey showcase on the second
floor. In the Agriplex, check-out daily horse-shoeing, sheep
shearing, cow milking and lots of baby animals. The Grandstand
welcomes Gary Lewis and the Playboys and all ticket holders
have a chance to win a diamond ring courtesy of Nash Jewellers.
Dodge Rodeo takes over the Grandstand track for the first
weekend of the Fair and Sunday night the cowboys are gone
and the Demolition Derby roars into town.
Enjoy a new layout
in our Adult Midway, with all your favourite thrills. Over
60 rides and over 60 games, the largest midway in south-western
Ontario, rivalling the CNE and Ottawa Ex. Don’t forget
Sundays in the Adult and Kiddyland Midway, two people ride
for the price of one.
Check
out many new ethnic foods, plus maple candy floss, and deep
fried cheese or chocolate bars on a stick. The International
Food and Travel Building is NEW this year and a savoury sensation
for those who come to eat! Sampling is available at a minimal
cost.
