Western Fair's own Youth Talent finalists take first place at National Youth Talent Competition in Vancouver, British Columbia .
The acrobatic dance piece INSECT performed by Kali Wegg (Parkhill), Lisa Vandenberk (Denfield), Glynnis Pardo (Nairn) and Andrea Doroshenko (London) won first place at the 2004 Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions National Youth Talent Finals this past week in Vancouver, BC. The girls, who range in age from fourteen to twenty and train at the Andrea Wegg Dance Studio in Parkhill, won the 2004 Western Fair Youth Talent Finals this past September, making them eligible to compete in the Youth Talent National Competition.
Also of note is first runner-up, Aaron MacKenzie representing Klondike Days (Edmonton, Alberta) with his Swing/Hip-Hop performance entitled, SING, SING, SING and Natalie Fagnan , representing the Calgary Stampede (Calgary, Alberta) who performed a light German opera, IM CHAMBRE SEŽPAREŽE to take third place.
The National Youth Talent Awards is an annual event presented by the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions since 1991, the Awards celebrate the performing arts talents of Canada's youth. Young Canadians between 13 and 21, representing fourteen zones from across Canada, perform their way from the local fair to the provincial zone level and then on to the National Finals. Since its inception, the National Youth Talent Awards have been supported by Conklin Shows, through the Patty Conklin Memorial Fund.
Some notable performers who have participated at some level in this competition over the years are; Jamie Warren, Beverley Mahood, Tiffany Deriveau, Andrea Henry of "Sugar Jones", Michael BubleŽ, Paul Brandt, and Alannis Morrissette.
